About CSX Carbon

We’re delivering a trusted, science-led approach to BNG & carbon measurement.

CSX’s purpose is to help develop a trusted BNG & carbon market, offering land managers a fair return for environmental management and businesses a transparent, verified carbon offset.

CSX was established in January 2020 by entrepreneurial land managers and woodland creators, frustrated by the existing voluntary carbon market mechanisms. They saw that new technologies could be integrated and utilised to deliver integrity to the scaling of private sector investment into Nature Based Solutions.

Brexit meant the loss of the CAP funding mechanism, and the focus shifting towards habitat restoration. Andy Howard recognised that land managers could use technology to collect and analyse the data necessary to provide an accurate measurement of carbon sequestration. Moreover, that same data could provide corporates with the audit and verification necessary to underpin an ESG investment.

Andy Howard

CEO

Andy Howard co-founded CSX and has since lead the development of the company in creating the infrastucture to help businesses and landowners take control over their climate action, and provide integrity and structure to that process. Andy's vision is to connect the dots between landowners and businesses to deliver nature based solutions. Using data to facilitate positive trading in carbon, BNG and nature credits, measuring and monitoring the impact these solutions have over time.

Steven Crosby

Business Development Executive

Steven works with planners, architects and developers to help them through successfully meeting the Biodiversity Net Gain requirements on a project. This can involve both helping to assess and deliver on-site BNG within a development, and where necessary secure off-site BNG units from the range of professional land managers CSX supports to deliver BNG habitat banks.

Rhian Trueman

Environmental Data Analyst

Rhian Trueman leads CSX's work on bird biodiversity monitoring through the use of bioacoustic sensors, and is a member of the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) team at CSX. Our BNG team assess the existing habitats, and create potential nature restoration scenarios that are appropriate for the project and landowner. BNG delivery also includes producing a Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan to ensure habitat establishement, and liaising with Local Planning Authorities so that the project meets their requirements under BNG section 106 requirements.

Emily Leech

Product Delivery Team Supervisor

Emily's main role as Product Delivery Team Supervisor is helping landowners on the journey of understanding and delivery as to how CSX’s accurate measuring and monitoring systems can help bring their BNG, carbon & Natural Capital to market. She onboards clients to the CSX platform, ensures smooth communications between the client and the internal team, enabling CSX to deliver high quality Natural Capital, carbon and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, trading and monitoring.

Megan Russell

Quality Assurance & Compliance Lead

Megan leads the team at CSX with respect to LPA engagement on BNG section 106 agreements, Quality Assurance systems such as BSI Flex standards, and the developing requirements of CSRD, TNFD and TCFD. Megan oversees processes and procedures across the organisation, to align to industry best practice, recognised standards, and regulatory requirements.

Mark Hopper

Technical Supervisor

As Technical Supervisor at CSX Mark oversees development and deployment of our earth observation data gathering techniques, AI and machine learning and a range of IoT sensors and analytical tools. This includes Machine Learning algorithms for woodland aboveground biomass and carbon, peatland carbon, water table loggers to assess peatland health and bird bioacoustic biodiversity monitoring. These innovative remote sensing technologies provide non-subjective data which enables accurate, repeatable carbon, nature and Natural Capital assessments.
